Math Grove — Privacy Policy
Last updated: 7 October 2026 · mathgrove.app
Math Grove is a math-facts app for children aged roughly 4–7, designed to be played by a child and a grown-up together. This policy explains exactly what the app stores, what leaves the device and what does not, and how to erase everything.
The app is published by UNP Digital LLC (“we”), and this policy
covers the Math Grove apps for iOS and Android (dev.patnaik.mathgrove)
and this website, mathgrove.app. Our Terms of Service
cover the use of the app itself.
The short version
- Math Grove works fully without an account. Played that way, nothing ever leaves the device.
- A parent account is free and optional. It backs up your family's settings, each child's first name, map progress and practice history, so they follow you to your other devices.
- We never collect anything from the child. Children never type personal information into this app — a grown-up enters a child's first name, and that is the only personal detail about a child the app holds.
- No ads. No third-party analytics or advertising SDKs. No tracking. Nothing sold or shared with anyone else.
- Deleting your account from inside the app erases the backup.
- A backup left unused for five years is erased automatically, apart from the record of what your family bought.
Playing without an account
The Meadow (the first zone) and the Practice Room are free and open forever, with no account. Used this way, Math Grove collects nothing: progress, settings and practice history are written only to the app's own private storage on the device, and no network requests carrying your data are made. Uninstalling the app removes that data.
The optional parent account
A grown-up may create a free account (email and password, or Google sign-in) to back the family up and to move between devices. Creating one is always a parent's choice, made behind a parent gate. Everything below is stored only if an account exists and consent has been given.
About the parent
- Email address, and the sign-in method used (password or Google).
- An account identifier issued by our sign-in provider.
- A record of your consent: the date and time, and which version of this notice you agreed to.
About the family
- Family settings: music and sound effects on/off and their volumes, the practice timer length, whether practice introductions are skipped, and how many recent sessions the progress charts summarise.
- The list of children set up in the app: an identifier for each child, and each child's first name as entered by a grown-up. (Names are carried by a switch we can turn off; when it is off, only the identifiers sync and names restore as “Child”.)
- Identifiers of children that were deleted, so a deletion made on one device also takes effect on your others.
- Which worlds and extra child slots have been unlocked or purchased.
About each child's learning
- Map progress: which lesson and warm-up each zone has finished, whether a grown-up has signed the zone off, best practice score, how many times its game has been played, and how far the map has been opened.
- Practice history: up to the 60 most recent practice sessions. Each holds the start time, whether it was a zone or the Practice Room, which zone, the number of questions and how many were correct, the total time, and for each question: which math fact was practised, whether it was right, how long it took, and whether the practice timer ran out.
- Learning preferences: whether visuals start shown, whether the ten-frame mastery drill is on, and which practice topics are switched off.
All of it exists for one purpose: to back your family up and keep it in step across your devices. It is not used to build a profile, to advertise, or for any purpose beyond running the app for you.
Who else handles this data
The backup is stored using Google Firebase (Firebase Authentication and Cloud Firestore), acting as our data processor under the Google Cloud Data Processing Addendum. Your family's information is held in a single document, beside a small separate record of which worlds and extra child slots your family bought; both are readable and writable only by your own signed-in account, and security rules enforce that isolation.
Emails you send to our support address are received and stored by Zoho Mail, our email provider, under its data processing terms; Zoho Mail also delivers the two account emails we send you (the request for your consent and its confirmation). Apart from Google Firebase and Zoho Mail, we do not use any third-party service to process your data, and we do not use advertising or analytics SDKs.
Children's privacy
Math Grove is intended for young children and is designed so that no personal information is ever collected from a child. Nowhere in the app can a child enter personal information: the only thing a child ever types is the answer to a math problem. There is no chat, no social features, no user-generated content and no advertising. A child's first name is entered by a grown-up, is used only as a friendly label inside your own family's app, and is never shown to anyone else.
Purchases and the parent settings sit behind a parent gate, and an account is only ever created by a grown-up. Consent for the backup is given by the parent, in two steps: creating the account and then clicking the link in the email we send to the parent's address, which sets out what the backup holds, why, and how to withdraw (a Google sign-in is already verified, so consent is recorded at sign-in). Once consent is recorded, a second email confirms it and repeats how to take it back. Until that consent exists, nothing is uploaded at all.
Withdrawing consent and deleting data
- Delete your account — in the app, under the parent hub's Account screen. This erases the family's stored copy and closes the account. The device you delete from clears itself immediately, and every other signed-in device clears itself the next time it is opened.
- Sign out — this returns the device to its fresh-install state. Your backup is kept, so signing in again restores the family.
- Reset progress — clears learning progress while keeping the account.
- Uninstall — removes everything held on that device.
You may also write to us at the address below to ask what is stored about your family, or to have it deleted.
How long we keep it
We keep your family's information only as long as it serves the purpose it was collected for: backing your family up and keeping it in step across your devices. We never keep information about a child indefinitely.
- The family backup — each child's first name, map progress, practice history and learning preferences, and the family settings. It is kept while your account is in use, and erased as soon as you delete your account in the app.
- A backup that is no longer used — if nobody has opened Math Grove signed in to your account for five years, we erase the family backup automatically. We keep that long because families often come back to the app years later, frequently with a younger brother or sister, and the backup is what lets them carry on where they left off. We keep only the record of which worlds and extra child slots your family bought, so a purchase is never lost; that record holds nothing about any child.
- Your parent account — your email address, sign-in method and consent record — is kept until you delete the account.
- An account that is never confirmed — the link in our email never opened — is deleted, with its email address, 30 days after it was created.
- Information on your devices stays in the app's own storage until you sign out (which clears that device), reset progress, or uninstall the app.
- Emails you send us are kept for three years, then deleted. Because an email or screenshot can mention a child by name, we protect them as carefully as the backup.
This website
mathgrove.app is a plain set of pages. It sets no cookies, runs no analytics or advertising code, and makes no requests to anyone but our hosting provider, Google Firebase Hosting, which keeps ordinary server logs (the requested page, the time, and the requesting network address) for its own operation. The page our confirmation email opens also passes the email's one-time code, through our own server, to Google Firebase Authentication, which is how your address is confirmed.
Usage data
To understand how the app is used and to improve it, we may use first-party usage data — information about how features are used, collected by us and for our own product decisions only. It is never shared with or sold to anyone else, and it is never used for advertising. If and when this begins, we will say specifically what is collected and ask parents to agree to an updated version of this notice.
Purchases
Additional worlds and extra child slots may be purchased. Purchases are handled by the App Store or Google Play; we never see or store your payment details. We record only which items your family owns. Prices and purchase options are shown to grown-ups only, behind the parent gate — never to a child.
Changes to this policy
If we change what the app collects, we will update this page and, where the change is material, ask parents to agree to the updated notice inside the app before the change takes effect.
Contact
Questions about this policy or about your family's data: support@mathgrove.app.
The Contact Developer button in the Parent Hub opens a message in your own email app with the app's version and your device's model and system version filled in, to help us look into problems. Nothing is sent unless you send it, and you can edit or delete those lines first.
